Setup
The following page describes the setup steps required to implement Google Tag Manager with Zonal PMS, including the page view and purchase tag configuration needed to track bookings accurately.
Setup Topics
Adding the GTM Code
Before any tracking can take place, your GTM container ID must be entered into the Zonal PMS. This connects the PMS booking engine to your Google Tag Manager account.
Follow these steps to add the GMT code:
-
Locate the Google (GTM) Tracking Code field
-
Enter the GTM Container ID
Format: GTM-XXXXXXX -
Click Save
Your GTM will now receive data from the booking engine
Page View Tag Setup
This tag tracks every page view within the PMS booking engine and sends it to GA4. It forms the foundation of all booking journey reporting.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Setting | Value |
| Tag Type | Google Analytics: GA4 Event |
| Measurement ID | Your GA4 Measurement ID (G-XXXXXXXXXX) |
| Event Name | page_view |
| Trigger Type | Page View |
| Trigger fires on | Some Page Views |
| Trigger condition | Page Hostname contains high-level-software.com |
Purchase Tag Setup
This is the most important tag for revenue reporting. It captures booking confirmation data and sends it to GA4 as a purchase event. Without this, revenue will not appear in GA4.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Tag Type | Google Analytics: GA4 Event |
| Measurement ID | Your GA4 Measurement ID (G-XXXXXXXXXX) |
| Event Name | purchase |
| Ecommerce | ✓ Send Ecommerce Data (tick this checkbox) |
| Data Source | Data Layer |
| Trigger Type | Page View |
| Trigger fires on | Some Page Views |
| Trigger condition 1 | Page Hostname contains high-level-software.com |
| Trigger condition 2 | Page Path contains /availability/confirm |
How it Works - the 'Send Ecommerce Data' setting
When you tick 'Send Ecommerce Data' and set the data source to 'Data Layer', GTM automatically reads the ecommerce object that the PMS pushes at confirmation and forwards the full transaction details to GA4. You do not need to manually map individual variables.
