Order Items in a Ticket by Cook Time to Improve Efficiency in Preparation
Kitchen iQ offers multiple ways to display order information, from the familiar ticket based panel view to staging orders by cook time using the dedicated cook time view. While the advanced option to display items strictly by cook time can deliver impressive results, it may feel complex for some operators and is not always the right fit for every business model.
For those using panel view, there is a powerful yet often overlooked alternative: displaying tickets in cook time order. By automatically placing items with the longest cook time at the top and the shortest at the bottom, teams gain a clear, practical workflow that supports better timing and coordination.
This simple adjustment can have a significant impact. It helps ensure dishes are prepared in the correct sequence, reduces the risk of delays or mismatched plating, and ultimately enhances food quality and consistency during service.
Cook Times
Cook times are added to Recipes and Standard Line products within Product Modelling. Each product can have a single standard cook time for all portions, or individual times where portions vary in size and require different cooking durations.
Additional Guidance
-
Not all products have to have a cook time, consider those items that always take longer to prepare to assign a time
-
Use cook times for grouping of similar items on a ticket, for example Proteins | Salads | Sides, assigning the same time to those will ensure they are grouped together
-
When using Kitchen iQ for drinks dispense consider drinks that may take a long time to prepare, displaying them in a timed order could help, for example Guinness and Cocktails at the top, wine at the bottom
